Seeing What You Want to See

Here's how the Wall Street Journal plays the municipal results:

PARIS -- The ruling center-right UMP party of Nicolas Sarkozy was defeated in local elections Sunday, putting even more pressure on the French president to forge ahead with his promised overhaul of the country's sluggish economy.


Well, that's one interpretation, I guess.

That's the spin you were hearing from the UMP surrogates on TV and radio all night long, to the point journalists would actually point out how similar all their remarks were. It is rare for French journalists to point out talking points are talking points. But I guess WSJ liked the talking points alright.

It reminds me of the Republican mantra that tax cuts are the solution to each emerging problem.
