The Post Doesn't Like DSK

How's this for a description:

Wearing a dark suit and open shirt collar, Strauss-Kahn flashed a wry smirk at onlookers. He was not handcuffed.

Minutes later, he arrived at the posh Franklin Street townhouse, where police had cleared the entrance. That didn't stop a female passerby from shouting, "Pig" at the Pepe Le Pew-like groper. He sneered at her before entering his new home away from home.

How's that for a description?

Bigoted and embarrassing. Typical tabloid, really.

The Post likes ethnic slurs more than anything.

Also "groper?" He's accused of rape! Not "groping"

Almost as if his sin is being French, not being a rapist.

It may not like DSK, but DSK is France in its totality. Read this post for hatred:

I've read quite enough shamefully anti-French articles from the USA over the last ten years, and something from the New York Post with that title isn't likely to be anything different but what do you mean by 'DSK is France in its totality'?

The NY Post is a local paper. It may not have the eloquence (sic) of the NYT, but in actuality, it is factually correct and published fewer retractions than The Old Grey Lady.
Andrea Peyser who wrote the cited column is an award winning opinion writer, not a news journalist.
"French" is not an ethnic slur, it is a statement of fact re DSK's nationality. Unfortunately for France, the disgraceful, ugly, misogynist comments by DSK's supporters displays a very ugly and utterly unacceptable
view of women, which is, as any woman who has lived and worked in France knows is all too true.
Don't shoot the messenger for exposing this dark underbelly of French culture.
Let's all hope that something good will come out of this. That women can break through the very high and brittle glass ceiling in France without stopping off at the casting couch, and the code of Omertà that protected DSK, Balkany & others will be broken, and women who are victims of unwanted advances or sexual assault will come forward.

DSK is accused of groping. One of the seven counts in the DSK indictment is "unwanted sexual touching" aka groping.

Do I really have to say this? I guess so: DSK ≠ France!

When journalists start to use subjective words like 'smirk', you can pretty much give up on them. And that's before you get to 'Pepe Le Pew-like'.
From a paper which ran a cartoon suggesting Obama was a chimp, I wouldn't expect any better, though.

On the other hand, Telerama's got an excellent "guest-blog" by Lestrade, the film maker who won an Academy Award for Murder on a Sunday Morning, which explores the American judicial system when an African American teenager is accused of murdering a rich, white tourist in Florida.

@cincinna "French" is not an ethnic slur, but in this context Pepe-le-pew most certainly is. And its not the first time, like when the Post headline had "Frog Legs It" for when he made bail. Though, at least that had the virtue of being hilarious, even to this frenchman.

And you need not educate me about the NY Post. I grew up in NYC. The only reason anybody reads it is for the sports section. It is otherwise a hateful rag, currently on a a ridiculous campaign against bike lanes.

Its so terrible hey even recorded a song about it.

@Cincinna: WADR, this Andrea Peyser is a complete idiot. Her column is the NY Post in all its splendor (sic). If she tried to post it as a comment on my blog I would trash it (for violating my comments policy against American right-wing Francophobic idiocies). I can't imagine what awards she could have possibly won. Not a Pulitzer, that's for sure. And please don't try to explain or excuse the Post. It won't fly.
