Aubry Ahead in Deputy Support

Martine Aubry has the support of 45.1% of Socialist deputies, compared with only 27% for Hollande.

Does that really matter?
Can these deputies (? is that the translation?) convince part of their constituents to vote like them?
(Real question, not rhetorical! Anyone with election expertise please help here).

It's logical the elected officials from the party would choose the party leaders; as for sénateurs, they're mostly "cumulard" (being mayor AND senator, and often something else!) and Hollande promised to uphold the "cumul" des mandats which Aubry, Royal, Montebourg all promised to abolish. I don't see this information as helping in predicting the results of the Primaries.
