Hollande vs. Juppé

I didn't see it, but Thierry Desjardins, anti-Sarkozyste de droite, gives Hollande a TKO against a Juppé "vieux et usé," to borrow a phrase. Please post your opinions in comments.

I am no big fan of the way Thierry Desjardins splutters and hammers his keyboard, but this post is a very accurate and moderate comment. Yes Juppé was a man of the past, seemed almost a ghost. Always was uncomfortable and on the edge of personnal attacks. Hollande was never arrogant, on the opposite, he insisted several times the election was 90 days away and that he wasn't elated by the polls. His conclusion when Juppé was stupid enough to state that no candidate leading the polls in january ever was elected, was perfect : Yes indeed, I'm the one leading the polls in january. I agree with Desjardins that nobody pays too much attention or gives too much credit to François Hollande's concrete proposals. My belief is that many voters will choose an alternate presidential style more in line with the times (no more charismatic leader please !)and cross their fingers. In this election empathy will matter more than ever. Nicolas Sarkozy will have a very hard time. There is no second chance to make a first impression. I suspect that "I made mistakes but I have changed. I work hard, I know how to handle this mess, I have bigger balls and the other guy is a boring lunatic sissy", that won't work.

I didn't see the debate but my wife did and said that Juppé was "nul". And that was the universal consensus on the France Inter news this morning, even among deputies in the UMP.

Hollande is good. He's coming into his own as a candidate. As for his proposals, bof, who cares? It's all about symbolism and packaging.

BTW, Art, I agree with Massilian about Thierry Desjardins. He is not a credible journalist. I started to pass over everything I saw by him in the mid-90s, after a series of stupid, irresponsible reportages he did from Algeria (he's the kind of reporter whose stories are full of gossip heard at the hotel bar and from taxi drivers). And he's way out on the right.

Hollande proved that he could be good; Juppé proved that he may still be the best of them but compared to Nadine Morano and Claude Guéant that's not saying much: not enough challenge softens even the best minds. And as Desjardins states he's the last person who should speak of "arrogance".

#Sarkoshow actually trended on Twitter. All reactions were sarcastic - even usual UMP followers were, hm, quiet (Tardy, Lambert).
Summary:
The VAT will increase but not for cafe owners (?), people who own houses will be allowed to build new floors, and France will become Germany.

Keep cool #yauramatch

I really like the conclusions "there WILL be a contest", like 'I'm not scared'...
