the "social VAT" was voted down today, in a slap to Sarkozy. The UMP representative iTV interviewed whined pitifully "we didn't know there'd be so many of them, they cheated, it's stupid". Later, they were better, explaining to France 2 that most UMP representatives were on their own turf, talking to people. Still, the basic presentation was "a slap for Sarkozy". Of course, in a normal democracy, the fact not all laws will be voted by the Parliament wouldn't seem "a slap" but normal...

not looking good for Sarkozy - about 80 days to the election and he's at 36% favorable opinions, whereas the only people who don't like Hollande seem to be UMP party members.
