Hollande Bids for the Youthful Suburban Vote ...

... with an ad that uses the N word (from Jay-Z and Kanye West) (h/t Zach):

So, Hollande is currently running an ad targeting "youth" in the suburbs, using Jayz's "n****s in Paris" in the video.
 Disgraceful debasing of the political discourse in using racist language and images to win an election. What's next?
  And I thought using racial epithets was a crime in France.

As far as I can tell, the meaning or subtext of the N-word is totally lost on most French people.
This in itself is a problem but it's hardly Hollande's.
I bet his team think it's a cool slang word urban youth use in the US...

Hollande's people are being advised by Obama's campaign staff since Tge beginning. Even his campaign slogan is a play on " Hope and Change" " Change you can believe in" leftovers from 2007.
Everyone knows what the N word means. The Trayvon Martin case is on French TV every single day. It was chosen very carefully, for a very specific purpose.
Hollande is playing with fire ginning up racism and racial tensions in France to try and win an election.
Shame on Hollande, the PS and anyone else who defends this racially charged language.

Let's be clear about some facts of usage. The word used in the video is "niggah," a slang word universally used by young black Americans (check out any episode of "The Wire") to denote a male friend, buddy, guy. The word is cognate with, but completely separated in usage from, the hate-word "nigger," used historically by white people to denigrate blacks. Some people, especially older black Americans, aren't very happy about this semantic drift, but it would be foolish to deny that it is a linguistic fact. So take a deep breath, Cincinna et al.--Hollande and his crew are on solid ground here.

@Brent
If you are white , try calling any black male the N word, either one. If you are a politician, you will be sanctioned and threatened, if you are a TV personality, you will be fired, ditto for a journalist, if you are just some guy in a black neighborhood, well, you know what would happen to you.
Both terms are degrading and offensive. The fact that some black youthwith nothing better to do call each other the N word, and call women b*****s and hos, and
use it in their music doesn't make it OK.
The hypocrisy and double standard boggles the mind!

What Cincinna said ...twice... These 'N' words all of them in all their original and derivative forms have been elevated to the status of "hatespeak" by the very liberals and leftists now using them with apparent impunity to attract voters. Either prosecute every political figure shown in those movies for hate speech or abolish the concept and the relevant statute. You can't have your cake and eat it or rather you can if you are a Socialist apparently.
