Dark Horse

Bruno Le Maire says he might become a candidate for the leadership of the UMP if his ideas are "not taken up by the other candidates." I like Le Maire, probably more than I should, because I enjoyed the book in which he described his états d'âme as a cat's-paw in the war to the death between his mentor Villepin and Villepin's nemesis Sarkozy.

Good, honnest and full of willingness guy... After the book, indeed, which seems especially sincere. It would be profitable for democracy if a guy like him would become a leader on the right side.

He doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell. The UMP militants will be electing the next Secy-Gen and who will be the party's presumptive candidate for 2017 (though there will certainly be a primary). The Chiraco-Villepiniste Le Maire just doesn't have that stature within the party. Not today in any case. It's either Copé or Fillon.

Never say never, but basically I agree. That wing of UMP is on life support.
