An American observer comments on French politics.
I've not been interviewed, so I will just testify here — I am currently reading "Shooting War" and that is something like a masterpiece (potential readers, please read beyond the amazingly low-key first chapter). A reader wrote on amazon: "a War and Peace in the XXth century" — you get the idea.
I enthusiastially endorse the recommendation of "Shooting Wars." As for the interview, it confirms my belief that Art's days must be at least 36 hours long. How can he possibly do all that?
As a translator myself (75 books, far fewer than Art has done), I'm awed by the way he prepares for a translation. No wonder he has won so many prizes, and is about to be awarded a French-American Foundation "lifetime achievement" award.
but what a NICE listicle!
I find it bizarre that the NYT has decided to link *half* of your recommendations, seemingly at random.Nice lists, though
