Bayrou Will Back Macron If Conditions Are Met

François Bayrou, recognizing that the "dispersion" of political programs would increase the risk of a Le Pen victory, proposes an "alliance" with Emmanuel Macron. He also laid out a series of "exigences" that Macron would have to meet.

Macron said OK.
I think it'll bring him 4-5% - enough to get to first place ahead of Le Pen in at least one or two polls, and 'vote utile ' will kick in from there.

Will Bayrou even bring Macron that much? Bayrou is probably still most popular among center-left voters - those most likely to be backing Macron anyway at this election. I don't know to what extent the move will seduce center-right voters who may still be angry at Bayrou for endorsing Hollande five years ago.

Certainly, Bayrou's announcement helps Macron by moving the news cycle away from the colonization controversy. Beyond that, I'm not sure.

Interesting twinning - an oldie with a youngie, same thing Hamon & Melanchon didn't pull off - or not yet anyway. Even tho I don't have a vote here the shifting colors are great to watch...
