An American observer comments on French politics.
Pardon my previous skepticism-it appears Macron really IS the Messiah, the Second Coming of deGaulle, the summation of French political philosophy, the spiritual heir of Saint-Simon, the rhetorical twin of René Char ...
Oh for goodness sake, Macron's just proposed national service, that favorite panacea of busybodies everywhere, for everyone. Only for a month but still never something I could support.
@LapinotSo I assume you will be voting for Le Pen.
^ Wait what? How do you get the idea that Laponot is a Lepen supporter? The idea doesn't seem very practical unless you stagger it for 2 hours every weekend throughout schooling.
I'm not French and I'm not a bigot, so I neither could nor would.
Up until a month or so ago, the nice woman who does the Guardian's political reports from Paris was describing Macron as a ”maverick”. Article after article, I swear. There was clearly an editorial intervention. The term now used is ”independent centrist”.
How did she see Macron as a maverick? Is 'independent centrist' better or worse in your opinion? 'maverick ' to me evokes John McCain so clearly I'm not getting the right image. :)Myos
Here's an example, Myos.She's French. I've honestly no idea what she meant.”Independent centrist” is more noncommittal, I'd say.Hazareesingh's a good guy, a proper scholar. Unlike him, I see Macron's defining characteristics as personal ambition and conformism.
Yesterday Macron was a lisping prissy according to you; today he is an ambitious comformist. Yawn. I don't know whether you are a Briton or an American, but Macron is so intellectually superior to either Trump and May that I can only assume you are jealous that the French are not quite as stupid as your compatriots.
Do I know you pal?
No, and I have no desire to make your acquaintance. You are a nitwit;
Thanks Bert. I guess there are as many ways to see Macron as there are people. :)
One of those last two comments is Myos, correct?Even an intelligent person might be forgiven for being a bit confused here.Non-Myos-Anonymous, I get that you're still upset, but you see the problem, right?
Oops, yes the last comment is Myos.
Il y a autant de Macrons que de macarons.
