Mr. Clean Has a New Problem

Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière, the same financier who paid Mme Fillon €100,000 euros for three pages of book reports, also lent €50,000 interest-free to her husband. No problem, says his lawyer. He paid it back. But in the US an interest-free loan is a gift that incurs a tax liability. I don't know what the law is in France. The investigators are looking into this, as well as into the activities of M. Fillon's consulting firm, which also has a connection to Ladreit. The Republicans are going to regret having stuck with Fillon.

It appears that this loan should have been disclosed to the haute autorité of... and was not and that this is one of the grounds for referring him to the investigative judges.

My accountant told me I needed to report a personal loan with the fisc regardless of whether it was paid back. This wasn't the haute autorité for anything. I seem to remember a gift can be up to 40k with no tax consequences but loans need to get reported. Only last year was the paperwork on that lightened up.

Meanwhile Fillon announced he's going to speak directly to the ladies today. We'll be sure to tune in because what woman wouldn't drop everything to be mansplained to by the husband of Penelope?

It's not 'a new problem'.
The guy stole one million and wants French people. To 'Se serrer LA ceinture '.
A loan/gift/bribe won't change much.
I hope he sinks in the polls!!

What's bewildering to me is that he does seem to have firm, even fervid supporters.

They genuinely seem to see this dreary streak of sanctimony as a saviour, and don't care how corrupt or selfish or unpleasant he actually is.

And sanctimonious he is, including on the "Emplois Fictifs" of others.

You're right in terms of the French IRS. But because Fillon is a parliamentarian, this should have been reported to the haute autorité overseeing parliamentarian's personal financial situation etc...

Not seen that before.

That last comment was referring to 3:04pm, which offered cheap loans at low low rates.

I should focus more on blog content than blog process.
