Is French Next?

The University of Southern California has closed its German department. Arabic, Hindi, and Chinese are gaining in popularity at the expense of European languages.

Certainly,
French and German (and Philosophy) have recently come under attack from the administration in my university (University of Florida). So far, they're resisting and have lots of support from students and faculty, but for how long? Will they resist the next budget cut?

The President of the University of Nevada (Reno) recently stated publicly that the German program would likely be cancelled in the coming year, when the state university system is facing a 34% budget cut.

The question is not "is French next" or even "is English next" but "are all non-vocational studies" next?
