This is truly classic. It is standard operating procedure for French government figures to claim that they'd rather not do what they're doing but are forced to do so by "Brussels." Christian Estrosi takes it one step further: not only has he been forced by Brussels to open postal service to private competition, but it was "the Left" that ultimately put Brussels up to it. Alas for Estrosi, Jean Quatremer shows that governments of both the Left and the Right have been pushing toward this result for decades.
