Stanley Fischer May Replace DSK

Stanley Fischer, currently governor of the Bank of Israel and formerly a professor of economics at MIT, is a candidate to replace DSK at the IMF. He collaborated with IMF chief economist Olivier Blanchard on an (excellent) advanced macro text. He'd be a good choice.

Stanley Fisher is a great guy indeed, superb economist. The worry would be what about his political weight compared to, say, Gordon Brown, who is of course not a professional economist.

This is an interesting story, but I am not sure who to believe about this. I have read so many conflicting reports about who might replace DSK. I wonder if the practice of appointing a European is finished (and likewise an American at the World Bank).

Europe has the largest voting block in IMF, period.
