A Woman Writes What She Feels ...

... about wearing the hijab, and not wearing it. Here.

Disgusted with Muslim veils
President Obama recently effusively praised Nashala Hearn, the Muskogee girl whose family insisted that she wear the Islamic veil at school. What do former Muslim women like Nonie Darwish and Wafa Sultan say about the veil? It is a shield against rape; a mantle of misogyny; a symbol of Islam’s hatred and degradation of women.
“The hijab is a choice,” Muslims tell us. Really? Britain’s Channel 4 program Undercover Mosque filmed a British imam stating, “If she does not wear the hijab, we hit her.” Imams call uncovered women “raw meat” deserving of rape. The veil is therefore a woman’s protection against rape. In some European cities, indigenous European women are “choosing” to veil themselves to avoid rape by Muslim men. For refusing to wear the veil, Muslim men honor kill their daughters. Unveiled Muslim women in American colleges report being harassed by fellow Muslims.
In the West, the veil can be considered a choice in the sense that Muslim women suffer from Stockholm Syndrome.
A Western Muslim woman who wears the veil as a “choice” is like a bird who, when given the chance to leave its cage chooses to remain in its familiar confines. Western Muslims urge other Muslims to don the veil as a demonstration of separation, a finger poked into the eye of assimilation.
By celebrating this planet’s single most potent symbol of the degradation of women, President Obama is throwing all women under the bus. How utterly disgusting!

We are a Nation of Laws, not men. We are governed by the US Constition which specifically states in the FIRST AMENDMENT:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Thus, there is a freedom of free exercise of religion issue, as well as a free speech issue here. (Dress has long been considered a protected form of speech)

The POTUS swears an oath to uphold, protect, and defend
the Constition of the United States. Obama is just doing his job. Every POTUS would do the same.

Religious freedom does not include freedom for Muslims, or anyone else, to threaten or intimidate women.
